Hualien River Tracing Destinations

Hualien County is known as Taiwan’s premier destination for river tracing due to the pristine nature of its rivers and relatively easy access to the wilderness areas where they are located. Hualien City is bordered by the undeveloped mountains of the Central Mountain Range.

Popular river tracing destinations include: Sanzhan South River, which flows down from Patuolu Mountain; Shapodang Stream which flows down from Mt. Lan (Lanshan); Emerald Valley, located in the unnamed stream which flows down from Baiye Mountain; Lao Stream and Baibao Stream, which flow down from Mugua Mountain and South Mugua Mountain respectively; Qiakan River, which flows down from Guangtou Mountain; and the Wanliqiao River, which flows down from Antongjun Mountain.
